About the work

The Unexpected Light Show

Before the COVID-19 I had no intent to reveal my intimate-space in front of the lens. Not because I want to remain certain privacy, but because I never thought of it as a potential subject. The pandemic by breaking all the norms and forcing us to stay home has condensed all of the different spaces available to us to one - the home.

I gained in the constraint a fresh vision to the banal and a new playground to interact with.

Context has always been an important aspect of my work, and in this particular series even more. Entitled the unexpected light show, the series explores the confined and familiar space of a bedroom. The use of a Polaroid instant camera puts an emphasis on the sense of time. Almost as an urgency. The same frame is repeated multiple times, however, the use of filters implies that the picture is taken on different days. Each photograph presents to the viewer a catalog of light shapes and shadows pacing the series. The use of green, red, and blue (RGB) gels is a reference to the digital world. Placing the project in contemporary times.
